Easter Holiday Homework

posted 29 Mar 2017, 03:20 by Daniel Broughton

Over this holiday, I would like the children to write me a magazine article for the National Geographic about an interesting place that they have visited over the Easter break. I have sent them home with a booklet to complete this in, but if this gets lost, I have attached a PDF copy to this post.

It would be great if they could include some photographs too.

In addition there is mymaths set (looking at decimal place value).

The mymaths is due 18/04/17.
The writing is due 24/04/17.

Spring half term homework

posted 14 Feb 2017, 05:16 by Daniel Broughton

The children have all been sent home with a booklet to complete their homework for half term in. It is due back in on 06.03.17. If for any reason the booklet gets misplaced, I have uploaded a PDF version to this webpage and to the class Edmodo site.

Enjoy the holiday...
Kind regards,
Mr. B

Clarinets - Reeds

posted 17 Oct 2016, 00:49 by Daniel Broughton

As a school, we have provided the children with their first (and in many cases 2nd and 3rd) reeds for their clarinets. Unfortunately, our supply has now diminished. This will mean that the children will need to supply and future replacements themselves. They are not expensive and can be purchased via Amazon or via any good music shop (Dawson in Chester for example). If the children take good care of their reed, it should easily last at least a term.

They are using a Clarinet Vandoren 1 1/2 reed (that we purchased from Amazon).

Thank you for your support...

Music - Wider Opportunities

posted 5 Sep 2016, 13:32 by Daniel Broughton

Hi all,
Music 4 Life will be beginning music lessons with the year 4 children on Wednesday 7th September 2016. With this in mind I have sent home the letters regarding the music lessons and the loan of musical instruments ahead of this. If they can be filled out (excluding the details of the instrument, as these will be sorted by the music teacher on Wednesday) and returned by Wednesday morning, the children will be able to bring their instruments home as soon as possible. If the letters are not returned, this can lead to some delays.
Thank you for your co-operation.
Kind regards,
Mr. B

Writing Homework - Due Thursday 30th June

posted 24 Jun 2016, 07:12 by Daniel Broughton

Using the short video on our class page to remind you about the features of persuasive writing, I would like you to write me a short piece of persuasive writing in the form of a speech to convince me to give you 10 minutes of extra break. You can either hand in a written copy of your speech or you can video yourself reading it.

I look forward to hearing your work...

SPaG Homework - Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar

posted 10 Mar 2016, 23:49 by Daniel Broughton

To help the children to really understand the concepts that we have been looking at in school during our SPaG lessons, I will be sending some additional homework. This will consist of a KS2 English - Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling book of targeted questions. I will set a task (usually on a Thursday with the MyMaths homework) and send the book home for the task to be completed. This will then be due back in on a Wednesday so that it can be marked ready for the next piece to be sent the following day.

If anyone requires further information or assistance with these activities, please feel free to contact me.
Kind regards,
Mr. B

Scrapheap Challenge!

posted 21 Jan 2016, 00:15 by Daniel Broughton

Homework for the Half Term holiday and the following half term (due in before Easter)

It is time to get creative! Our topic is conservation and ecology... A key part of looking after our environment is by recycling unwanted things...

Your challenge is to invent something useful (maybe even something to help protect the environment) completely out of recycled materials...

As long as your new invention has a purpose and is 100% recycled then you have met the brief!

Here are a few ideas to help you get off the starting blocks... but the more creative the better... Can you solve a problem in your own life with a bit of clever recycling?

Maybe you could build a go-kart or soapbox racer?
An eco-friendly bug hotel?
A bird box?
Even a desk tidy for the classroom!

Don't forget to take plenty of pictures while you are doing the project, I would love to see the work in progress...

Enjoy this one.... It should be excellent fun!

Kind regards...
Mr. B
